The NIMHANS Parkinson’s disease and movement disorder subspeciality (PDMDS) has an integrated and multidisciplinary approach toward research. We attempt to provide translational potential to exploratory research by developing and nurturing extensive collaborations between the fields of clinical and basic sciences.  Over the past two decades, we have published over 250 articles, in the fields of Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, spinocerebellar ataxia, Huntington’s disease, and numerous other movement disorders.  The PDMDS relies on a wide array of collaborators which include a several departments within NIMHANS, and other institutes such as the Institute of Bioinformatics, and the Symbiosis Center for Medical Image Analysis.  Research projects carried out by the PDMDS have been funded by several government funding agencies such as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science and Technology-Science and Engineering Research Board, and international funding agencies such as the Michael J fox Foundation.  All faculty members, PhD scholars and several DM Neurology residents with dissertations in movement disorders are actively involved in carrying out research.
